aside 711 Post: Community Meeting #2 Invitation

Dear Neighbors and Community Stakeholders-
Thank you to the many of you who came out to the community meeting last night about the proposed shelter project at 711 Post Street. Given the level of interest at yesterday’s meeting, we will be hosting a second community meeting next week to share information, answer questions, and hear feedback from the community.

Project Summary:
As part of the Mayor’s Homeless Recovery Plan, the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing continues to expand the programs, services, and housing to address the crisis of unsheltered homelessness in our community. To this end, we are expanding services to ensure that more people have a safe and stable place to come in off the streets and move forward on their pathway to housing stability. The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) is proposing to fund the lease and operations of a new semi-congregate shelter at the site of the former youth hostel at 711 Post St. The 123 room hostel could provide shelter for up to 200-250 adults. The unique configuration provides an opportunity for a new shelter model that builds off of the success of the Shelter in Place hotels. The site offers unique amenities such as small rooms, private bathrooms, an elevator, communal space, and a large kitchen that make it ideal for this use. As part of this program, Urban Alchemy will provide community ambassador services on the 700 block of Post Street.
